About The Position

The Environmental Services Floor Technician maintains a high level of cleanliness in the hospital and adjacent buildings, which may require traveling between facilities without assistance. The role completes floor-care projects such as stripping, waxing, and refinishing hard-surface flooring; carpet extracting and bonnet buffing; and restorative scrubbing of ceramic tile. The technician works independently and as part of a team, responds to and initiates communications using phones, handheld radios, or pagers, and performs other tasks as assigned. Under the general supervision of the EVS Director, Manager, Supervisor, or Lead, the technician cleans and maintains floors and carpets throughout assigned hospital areas using standard procedures and chemicals. Duties include floor scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, carpet shampooing and extraction, cleaning corners, edges, and baseboards, trash removal, buffing and burnishing, elevator-track and stairwell cleaning, upholstery cleaning, conference-room setups, and other floor and carpet maintenance. The technician performs routine floor cleaning in a neat and sanitary manner; mops, sweeps, scrubs, and strips floors; applies sealers and finishes; vacuums traffic areas and visible carpet debris; spot-cleans carpets using extraction and bonneting methods; and maintains hard floors without buildup in corners. The role includes dust mopping and polishing floors to restore shine and a uniform appearance. The technician keeps equipment clean and operational, secures work areas with safety signs, reports hazards, locks and unlocks doors and windows as necessary, turns off lights in unoccupied rooms, observes safety precautions, and leaves equipment and cleaning materials clean and ready for use at the end of each shift. Work is performed independently with normal supervision, and shifts may be day, evening, or night as assigned.
