About The Position

Join our team at the Office of Financial Recovery within the Finance, Facilities, and Analytics Administration (FTAA) in Olympia. In this role, you will support the Residential Billing Unit (RBU) by managing billing, accounting, and collection activities for the Behavioral Health and Habilitation Administration (BHHA). This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial records, processing payments and claims, resolving denied claims, and maintaining individual accounts receivable. You will also have the opportunity to initiate and process refunds, write-offs, and adjustments, helping to support the Department of Social and Health Services in delivering essential services to the community.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting, plus one to two years of relevant professional experience.
  • A Master’s degree in a finance-related field or certification as a Public Accountant, Internal Auditor, Certified Governmental Financial Manager, or Certified Management Accountant, which may be substituted for professional experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six or more years.
  • Ability to learn complex concepts quickly and apply new information effectively.
  • Adaptability to shifting priorities and changing business needs.
  • Creative thinking with a willingness to ask questions and explore alternative solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and related applications.

Responsibilities

  • Process and submit electronic and manual billing, including CMS claims, statements, refunds, write-offs, and award or participation updates.
  • Monitor claim acceptance and denials, complete resubmissions, and maintain accurate logs for cash distribution and denials.
  • Review, verify, and correct accounting data in financial systems while reconciling accounts as needed.
  • Analyze financial reports and resolve accounts payable discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with facility staff and insurance payers to resolve billing issues and ensure accuracy of coding and service information.
  • Work with internal systems and partners to ensure timely and accurate mental health and developmental disabilities census reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Revenue and Billing Unit and other internal teams to support effective billing operations and collections.
