About The Position

Under the direction of the Fiscal Services Manager, perform a broad range of accounting and budgetary functions in accordance with organization policies and all applicable federal and state requirements. This position provides support across purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budget and general ledger activities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, account analysis and reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and terminology of budgeting, accounting, and financial record keeping, preferably as they apply to California school accounting.
  • Knowledge of auditing and financial research and analysis procedures.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
  • Knowledge of account number structure and correct use of object codes.
  • Knowledge of computer-based software programs that support this level of work, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, presentation graphics, and data entry onto custom databases.
  • Knowledge of data processing systems and applications in the field of budgeting and accounting.
  • Knowledge of financial record-keeping techniques.
  • Ability to act in a professional, cooperative and positive manner.
  • Ability to apply policies and procedures to the assigned duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to be self-motivated.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in speaking, reading, and writing, including professional correspondence.
  • Ability to enter data onto standardized formats, using computerized data-based programs by basic keyboarding or 10-key skills and calculators.
  • Ability to examine, reconcile/balance, verify, and post assigned accounts.
  • Ability to perform general ledger maintenance and monitoring.
  • Ability to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Ability to make sound decisions necessary in the function of the position.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
  • Ability to operate a computer and assigned office equipment; use a variety of computer software programs, including but not limited to Escape Technology, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to prepare and process financial, accounting, and purchasing reports, documents, records, and materials.
  • Ability to process and record accounting transactions accurately. Detect and correct errors or omissions.
  • Ability to travel/drive to various sites, including San Bernardino.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, the public, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to work confidentially and exercise discretion.

  • Charter or school district business office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with cash receipt processing, account reconciliations, and year-end closing activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with fiscal reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Payroll, and Fiscal Services staff to ensure accuracy of position control setup and maintenance
  • Review vendor requisitions and direct payments for appropriate coding and available budget
  • Initiate journal entries and budget transfers
  • Collaborate and provide a variety of information and technical guidance (training) to the home office, school site, and other personnel regarding budgets, purchasing, payroll processes, and related data.
  • Responds to external auditors by providing requested accounting and budget data
  • Reviews payroll prior to submission to external payroll provider
  • Reviews coding and posts online payments
