About The Position

Come and work with us and apply your leadership knowledge to supervise the operations side of our Maintenance and Operations Division which supports Yakima Valley School, in Selah, WA. As a supervisor, you'll have a vital role in the delivery of maintenance facility operations. Plan, direct, and supervise the activities of a major functional unit in the physical plant maintenance department. Coordinates use of equipment, materials, and crews to accomplish efficient and early completion of work assignments; analyzes specifications and bids on materials and equipment to be purchased for construction; prepares preliminary and final cost estimates, from plans and specifications, for supplies, equipment, and personnel necessary to complete projects. Please note the schedule for this position is: Monday - Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm, covering on-call as needed.

Requirements

  • Professionals who have journey status as a trades-worker in one of the recognized fields such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, or sheet metal.
  • Five years of work experience as a journey trades-worker, two years of which in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Equivalent education/experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of regulatory codes as outlined in the NFPA, WAC, RCW, and unified/international building and fire codes.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the delivery of services.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, peers, staff, clients, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and manage operational programs, and professional staff including but not limited to the Transportation Shop, Auto shop, Industrial Laundry Operations, Grounds Maintenance, Stationary Engineers, and the Maintenance Mechanics at the Yakima Valley School
  • Ensure that all compliance codes and regulatory requirements are met as outlined in the NFPA, WAC, RCWs and building codes.
  • Interview, hire, train, and discipline shop personnel.
  • Review, prioritize, track, and schedule work orders to assure that client and staff needs are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in managing the maintenance budget to ensure the operation is efficient and effective.
  • Provide quality control with periodic inspections of work performed.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and support to direct staff.
  • Complete service requests and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Implement and evaluate workflow priorities.
  • Ensures communication equipment is properly de-energized following lockout / tag out procedures
  • Orders materials and maintains an adequate inventory of required materials to carry on shop or maintenance work.
  • Develops and conducts a preventive maintenance program for assigned machinery and equipment.
  • Enforces safety rules and regulations; maintains records on work performed; writes reports as required.
  • Proactively participate in the division management team by effectively communicating with other state agencies.
  • Inform and respond to Labor Union requests.
  • Plan and implement employee evaluation and development
  • Formulate operational policies and procedures (work directives) for recommendation to the Facilities Manager and Director.
