About The Position

DSHS is seeking a physician to join the team at Fircrest School/Residential Habilitation Center (RHC) in Shoreline, Washington. The mission is to provide care and training to prepare individuals for success in the community or provide long-term care for medically fragile residents.

Requirements

  • Valid license to practice medicine and surgery in the state of Washington.
  • Completion of an approved residency program and an applicable specialty area (e.g., family medicine, internal medicine).
  • Maintain a valid license to practice medicine and surgery in the state of Washington.
  • Annual tuberculosis (TB) screening.
  • Successful completion of Therapeutic Options training.
  • Maintain CPR and Blood Bourne Pathogens certification.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license when operating a state or privately-owned vehicle on official state business.
  • Comply with Washington State’s liability laws when operating a privately-owned vehicle on official state business.
  • Understanding of federal CMS regulations regarding approaches to client care and client rights.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively on all issues related to client care.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or training with general, geriatric, and psychiatric medical care is preferred.
  • Eligibility for American board certification would be desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care to clients with intellectual disabilities in our Residential Habilitation Center (RHC).
  • Attend to acute care concerns and provide medical management for chronic conditions.
  • Perform physical exams and comprehensive healthcare assessments for each client upon admission, annually, and upon discharge.
  • Evaluate patients for pre-op surgery and supervise postoperative care.
  • Make rounds on living units, the Respite Care Unit, and the Clinic to examine patients.
  • Provide medical care based on current standards of medical practice.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in an electronic health/medical records system (EHR/EMR) and some paper documentation.
  • Work with a support team of nurses, psychologists, clinical pharmacists, and other ancillary health professionals.
  • Coordinate care with visiting consultants and an established referral base.
  • Participate in shared phone/call duties on weeknights and weekends.
  • Communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public.
  • Interact, plan, consult with, and make recommendations to the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Provide annual physical exams, sick visits, and quarterly medication reviews.
  • Communicate with guardians and hospitals.
  • Provide physical support/interventions for clients using program-approved methods, which may include methods to assist moving or transferring.
  • Safely and physically intervene to protect clients from harm to themselves or others by following agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform duties during a recognized emergency or disaster as outlined in the DSHS Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, which may include reporting for duty on short notice, outside of normal hours, at a different duty station, or performing tasks outside the normal scope of duties.
