About The Position

The Financial Institution Internship (FII) is a paid, one-year internship assigned to the FDIC’s Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP), with internships beginning in May 2027. Interns primarily participate in insured financial institution examinations under the direction and supervision of an Examiner or a higher-graded team member. After successful completion of program requirements, and based on FDIC needs, an intern may be eligible for noncompetitive conversion to a Financial Institution Specialist (Compliance), CG-570-7 position in the competitive service, with promotion potential to CG-13. Conversion is not automatic or guaranteed. The position involves assessing compliance management systems and reviewing bank disclosures, statements, advertisements, loan application records, notices, and files for compliance with applicable regulations. Interns also learn about the Community Reinvestment Act examination process and prepare summaries supporting assigned performance-factor ratings. Interns must maintain student eligibility and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. They must meet FDIC ethical and employment conditions, including required background investigation and program agreements. Travel expenses for examinations are reimbursed, but interns are responsible for transportation to examination sites where public transportation may be unavailable. FDIC employees receive standard federal benefits and may be eligible for additional FDIC-specific benefits at minimal cost.
