Consultant - Financial Institution Advisory

BRG•Washington, DC
•$100,000 - $175,000

About The Position

BRG’s Financial Institution Advisory practice helps commercial banks, consumer finance companies, credit unions, mortgage banks, capital market participants, and insurance companies address complex business issues. The practice combines functional experts—including CPAs, CFAs, CROs, CRCMs, FRMs, former regulators, financial modelers, technologists, former bankers, and experienced consultants—to address risks and deliver practical benefits. This junior-level consulting role is suited to a CPA or CPA candidate with public accounting audit experience who wants to work on varied financial institution advisory engagements rather than traditional auditing. Assignments may include analyzing financial statements; helping clients implement accounting standards, systems, and risk systems; investigating accounting policies and practices; evaluating the sufficiency of audit procedures; and assisting with transactions such as portfolio acquisitions, mergers, and spin-offs. Work may also cover financial risk management, including credit risk, valuation, capital planning, stress testing, liquidity, resolution planning, and model risk management. The Consultant works with senior professionals to deliver client engagements, develop analyses and client-ready work products, manage project components, and communicate results. The role may include delegating and reviewing work, managing client relationships, contributing to business development and practice activities, and training staff. Projects can be data- and document-intensive and span accounting, auditing, SEC reporting, regulatory matters, risk and controls, finance and accounting, technology enablement, and business process optimization. Travel to client sites on demand is required. The ideal candidate has relevant accounting or consulting experience, preferably auditing SEC registrants at a large public accounting firm and serving financial services clients. A CPA designation or documented progress toward obtaining one is important for long-term advancement. Compensation is listed at $100,000–$175,000 per year; job title and compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must be able to verify their legal right to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

  • Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, including the ability and desire to expand Excel capabilities and train others to use relevant tools.
  • Thorough grasp of accounting principles and financial statements, including GAAP and the relationships among debits and credits, the cash flow statement, income statement, balance sheet, and trial balance.
