Winter Break Field Trip Camp Counselor - San Diego
About The Position
Steve & Kate’s is hiring a Winter Break Field Trip Camp Counselor in San Diego. The Field Trip program introduces campers to activities and spaces that encourage curiosity and help them discover their interests, in keeping with the company’s philosophy of trusting children to learn to trust themselves. Staff members help create an inclusive community while supporting creativity, play, and camper independence. Counselors chaperone field trips, travel by bus with campers to multiple stops, build connections, and monitor safety and wellness. The field trip dates are December 21, 2026 through January 4, 2027, with hours from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The hourly wage is $19.00–$21.50, determined by prior experience. The position is based at 4260 Calle Mejillones, San Diego, CA 92130.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- At least 2 months of experience working with camp-age children in a professional, personal, or volunteer setting.
- First Aid and CPR certification before the first day of camp; some locations may require additional certifications.
- Able to guide children as they make decisions for themselves.
- Able to remain calm under pressure and help calm others.
- Comfortable leading groups of children independently while collaborating with a team.
- Passionate about sharing knowledge and learning from others.
Nice To Haves
- One year of experience working with camp-age children is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Chaperone field trips and travel by bus with campers to multiple stops.
- Build connections with campers and monitor their safety and wellness.
- Actively supervise campers.
- Ensure compliance with camp policies.
- Report and record notable concerns or incidents, including injuries to campers, other staff members, or oneself.
- Keep track of and remain aware of camper allergies and dietary restrictions.
