About The Position

As a Winter Day Camp Counselor, you will get to know a small group of campers and supervise them through fun activities such as swimming, games, sports, and arts and crafts while keeping them safe. The position is seasonal and offers up to 40 hours per week at the Lakewood Family YMCA in Lakewood, Washington. Employment dates are December 21–23 and December 28–30. The wage is $17.13 per hour; compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range.

Requirements

• Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations.
• Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment set-up, and ability to instruct participants in age-appropriate techniques.
• Must be able to pass background and reference checks in accordance with the Washington State Fair Chance Act.
• Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, as well as other online and in-person training as required.

Nice To Haves

• Six months or more of related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
• Complete group head counts.
• Communicate with parents through parent communication cards.
• Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.
• Follow cleaning and sanitation protocols.
