About The Position

The Winter Day Camp Counselor works with a small group of campers and supervises them during activities including swimming, games, sports, and arts and crafts, while keeping campers safe. The role is seasonal and offers up to 40 hours per week at the Tom Taylor Family YMCA in Gig Harbor, Washington. Employment dates are December 21–23 and December 28–30. The posted wage is $17.13 per hour; compensation is based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range.

Employment with the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is contingent on completing applicable post-offer requirements, which may include age verification, reference checks, and state and national background checks. Requirements

• Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations.
• Knowledge and skills in day camp program activities and related equipment setup.
• Ability to instruct participants in age-appropriate techniques.
• Ability to pass background and reference checks, in accordance with the Washington State Fair Chance Act.
• Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Ability and willingness to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, as well as other online and in-person training as required.

Nice To Haves

• Six months or more of related experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and assist group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
• Complete group head counts.
• Communicate with parents through parent communication cards.
• Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.
• Follow cleaning and sanitation protocols.
