About The Position

As a Winter Day Camp Counselor, you will get to know a small group of campers and supervise them through fun activities, including swimming, games, sports, and arts and crafts, while keeping them safe. This seasonal role is based at the Lakewood Family YMCA in Lakewood, Washington, and is scheduled for December 21–23 and December 28–30. Hours are up to 40 per week. The posted wage is $17.13 per hour; compensation depends on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range.

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing post-offer requirements, which may include age verification, reference checks, and state and national background checks. Requirements

• A positive attitude and experience with children and diverse populations.
• Knowledge and skills in day camp activities and related equipment setup, and the ability to instruct participants in age-appropriate techniques.
• Ability to pass background and reference checks in accordance with the Washington State Fair Chance Act.
• Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Ability and willingness to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day and other online and in-person training as required.

Nice To Haves

• Six months or more of related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and assist with group activities, transitions, time fillers, and songs.
• Complete group head counts.
• Communicate with parents using parent communication cards.
• Complete accident and incident reports when necessary.
• Follow required cleaning and sanitation protocols.
• Supervise campers during activities and help keep them safe.
