The Field Services Specialist manages specimen collection supplies; assembles and enters test requisition data into the laboratory information system; assists patients and/or client staff with specimen collection; prepares and ships specimens to the laboratory; and prints and delivers test results to the client, as related to testing provided by Luxor. Federal regulations restrict the specialist from performing other tasks without prior manager approval. The specialist must be able to fully process up to four specimens per hour and manage multiple specimens at different stages of completion. During peak demand, specimens and identifying information may be accumulated for processing during lower-demand periods. Idle time is used to gather chart notes and medical-necessity documentation and prepare requisitions and collection supplies for upcoming specimens. The position works one day per week with no weekends in a clinic or group medical practice environment. Work may involve exposure to communicable disease or body fluids, and may include supervised and observed urine drug specimen collection, with an observer of the same gender as the person providing the specimen. The specialist must comply with applicable HIPAA and HITECH privacy and security requirements and the Anti-Kickback Statute. The role is limited to the specified tasks related to laboratory specimen collection and processing; additional clerical or medical functions are not to be performed.
