About The Position

Rivian is hiring an emerging-to-mid-level Field Service Technician to support electric vehicle repairs, inspections, and field service operations while delivering an exceptional customer experience. The technician will work under the mentorship of senior technicians and leadership, developing technical skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The role is based primarily at a local service center but may also involve remote work, mobile service travel, or support for plant operations as business needs evolve.

The position is a night-shift role with a 15% pay differential for work performed between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Applicants for North Carolina may be paid $23.00–$32.54 per hour. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus. Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Hold a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record, with no suspensions or revocations within the past 3–5 years.
• Be available for a standard 40-hour workweek, with potential weekend, holiday, early morning, evening, or overnight shifts based on business needs.
• Be flexible to travel to regional locations or production facilities as needed.
• Be proficient with laptops and computers in Windows or Mac environments and with work order management systems.
• Demonstrate eagerness to learn, strong organizational and time-management skills, and attention to detail.
• Be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Have 0–3 years of hands-on experience in an automotive shop or technical environment; recent graduates may apply.
• Have foundational knowledge of basic electricity, including awareness of high-voltage and low-voltage systems; basic circuit measurement tools such as a DVOM; and introductory electrical schematic reading.
• Have familiarity with basic hand and power tools, entry-level tire repairs, and basic vehicle alignments.
• Have a basic understanding of diagnostic workflows and troubleshooting steps under guidance.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalency credential.
• Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer.
• Graduation from an accredited automotive repair school or program.
• Basic exposure to electric vehicle or hybrid frameworks.
• Experience working in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections at a service center, on a mobile route, or at a remote location.
• Learn to identify and explain Rivian’s product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories while building peer relationships and working under senior-technician mentorship.
• Use available technical resources and follow repair procedures efficiently while maintaining quality and safety.
• Conduct post-repair road tests to verify repair quality and vehicle operational safety.
• Assist with parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, inventory tracking, and work order and expense reporting.
• Maintain detailed technical notes and documentation for completed and in-process repairs.
• Interact professionally with customers, families, third-party affiliates, and suppliers at service facilities or outreach events.
• Identify process improvements, provide constructive feedback to mentorship leads, and participate in service campaigns or containment initiatives.
• Participate in required training, keep technical skills current, and maintain high-quality work with increasing independence.
