About The Position

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot technical issues, and support advanced communication systems for Public Safety customers in Central New York. This role involves continuous training, collaboration with various internal teams, and direct customer interaction to ensure optimal system performance and customer satisfaction. The technician will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, testing, and documenting complex communication systems, including RF systems, telephony, and data circuits.

Requirements

2 year Associate Degree in Electronics or IT (preferred), or equivalent on-the-job experience.
Proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges.
Knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).
Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems and networking equipment.
Computer literate with proficiency in Google Suite, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams.
Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.
Must be able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer.
Must reside in Central New York or be willing to commute to Public Safety customers located in Central New York.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.
2+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking equipment or Military experience.
Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer.

Security +, CompTIA or related certificate is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues.
Continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
Team with Engineering, Project Management and Sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.
Optimize and support complex communication systems and software applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband systems.
Maintain, optimize, test and document complex communications systems.
Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
Deliver knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
Deliver knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
