About The Position

This role is customer-facing and highly technical, so the focus should be on troubleshooting expertise, customer support, machine installations, and serving as an advanced resource for Okuma's distributors and customers. Field Service Technician II At Okuma America Corporation, we are committed to delivering industry-leading CNC machine tool technology backed by exceptional customer support. As a Field Service Technician II, you will play a critical role in helping customers maximize machine performance by providing advanced troubleshooting, repair, installation, and technical support for Okuma equipment and automation solutions. This position serves as an escalation resource for complex technical issues that exceed distributor support capabilities. Through hands-on service, documentation, and technical guidance, you will help strengthen customer relationships while ensuring the successful operation and reliability of Okuma products in the field.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training, vocational education, military technical training, or equivalent industry experience preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery, CNC equipment, automation systems, or related technologies.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and control-related issues.
  • Experience providing technical support in a customer-facing environment.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to customer locations as business needs require.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Mechanical alignment and machine installation experience.
  • Knowledge of CNC machine tools, controls, and industrial automation systems.
  • Experience working with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and software-controlled systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, manuals, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and diagnostic tools used in troubleshooting and service activities.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to create detailed trip reports, service documentation, and technical procedures.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Associates Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in CNC controls, servo systems, PLC's, automation, as well as fundamental mechanical background including precision measurement, machine tool theory, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • 5 years of prior machine tool experience (Okuma preferred)
  • Customer centric behavior and great team attitude
  • Must effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring/diagnostic equipment. Not limited to, but include the use of: laser, ball bar, micrometers, calibers, precision levels, precision indicators, dynamometers, etc.
  • Advanced assembly drawing interpretation
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Basic mechanical/electrical skills
  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics a plus
  • Basic use of hand tools and variety of electrical and mechanical devices, such as precision measuring equipment, multimeters, oscilloscope, cranes, forklifts, etc.
  • Use of basic PC tools, such as Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as exceptional listening skills
  • Exceptional ability to speak and write effectively in a business environment
  • Exceptional ability to ask necessary questions
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to see clearly to do all work-related tasks (clear or corrected vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Finger dexterity is required frequently for over 3/4 of the normal work shift including operating a phone, computer/ electronic equipment, electronic tools, pallet jack, and forklift
  • Maintain annual OSHA safety certifications as required by job duties

Nice To Haves

  • Experience servicing CNC machine tools, preferably Okuma equipment.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing systems, robotic applications, or peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of machine retrofits, upgrades, and field modifications.
  • Experience developing technical manuals, service documentation, and training materials.
  • Strong customer-service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • FANUC CNC experience (preferred)
  • Okuma-Howa product knowledge (preferred)
  • Prior technical writing experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting, repair, and technical support for Okuma machines, controls, automation systems, and peripheral equipment.
  • Travel to customer facilities to perform machine installations, retrofits, upgrades, and corrective service activities.
  • Support customers, distributors, and internal teams by diagnosing and resolving technical issues remotely and on-site.
  • Develop technical documentation, repair procedures, and service bulletins that strengthen distributor and customer self-sufficiency.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource, delivering timely solutions that improve equipment performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
