About The Position

The Field Service Technician II provides field support to clients, including commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofitting of mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves diagnosing issues with mechanical and electrical equipment, controls, communications, and computers, and documenting these procedures. The position requires close collaboration with Quality, Engineering, Project Management, and client personnel. The Field Service Technician II also assists in monitoring Quality Assurance, performing QC checks, compiling O&M information, and assisting in the creation of final IOM manuals. A key responsibility is the commissioning of the mechanical portion of projects. The role reports to the Customer Service Manager but interfaces with Project Managers, Production Managers, QA Managers, Engineering Managers, and client personnel. Cross-training in controls and electrical systems is necessary.

Requirements

  • Significant project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance work
  • Experience with verification of compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices
  • Ability to travel extensively to both domestic and international job sites
  • Ability to work in field construction conditions
  • Must have or can obtain applicable safety certifications including but not limited to OSHA10 General Construction, NFPA-70E
  • Safe driving record
  • Ability to read drawings and schematics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including MS Office projects
  • Exposure to at least one brand of PLC or Building controls
  • Must be able to work independently at the job site

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC Trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred
  • Military training and/or technical work experience could be considered in lieu of trade school certification

Responsibilities

  • Compile O&M information
  • Transmit critical O&M information during a project
  • Assist in compilation of the final sets of IOM manuals
  • Provide feedback from the field
  • Create legible “red-line” drawings to submit to Project Manager
  • Arrange for a timely hand-off from construction function
  • Direct the field commissioning of a project
  • Troubleshoot all mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Provide documented commissioning of the mechanical and electrical portions of the project
  • Maintain close interface with other Field Engineers, Project Engineers and Project managers, with the mechanical and electrical engineers, with service technicians, and with the client’s personnel
  • Perform startup, preventative maintenance, and service of vertical turbine pumps and split coupled inline pumps
  • Perform startup, preventative maintenance, and service of Cooling Towers (Evapco, Kelvion, Marley, SPX)
  • Perform startup, preventative maintenance, and service of Centrifugal Chillers (Trane, York, McQuay, Smardt)
  • Perform startup and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives (Eaton and Allen-Bradley)
  • Install and repair power distribution systems including electric motors, motor control centers, and variable speed drives
  • Assist the Production Department in assembly, or in training of factory personnel
  • Assist in Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions
  • Possibly perform or oversee QC checks
  • Other responsibilities as designated by TAS
