About The Position

The Family Medicine Residency Program Director will establish and lead a residency program aligned with ACGME accreditation requirements and milestones, emphasizing excellence in clinical training, education, and community engagement. This role involves developing a long-term vision for the program, recruiting core faculty, and serving as a leader for graduate medical education. The director will also design and implement a comprehensive curriculum, promote a culture of excellence in teaching and mentorship, champion evidence-based medicine, and facilitate resident engagement in public health initiatives. Key responsibilities include leading accreditation processes, conducting program evaluations, preparing for site visits, developing community partnerships, and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program. Additionally, the director will provide faculty development, mentor faculty, and engage in professional activities that enhance the program and the organization's reputation.

Requirements

  • Must be a Family Medicine physician.
  • Must have experience in graduate medical education.
  • Must be eligible for ACGME accreditation.
  • Must have experience in clinical training, education, and community engagement.
  • Must have experience in developing and managing budgets.
  • Must have experience in designing and implementing curricula.
  • Must have experience in promoting evidence-based medicine, quality improvement, and scholarly activity.
  • Must have experience in leading accreditation processes and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Must have experience in conducting program evaluations and continuous quality improvement.
  • Must have experience in preparing for and overseeing site visits and reporting requirements.
  • Must have experience in developing partnerships with external organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a residency program aligned with ACGME accreditation requirements and milestones.
  • Develop a long-term vision for the residency program that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Recruit and build a team of dedicated core faculty.
  • Serve as a visible leader and advocate for graduate medical education.
  • Practice financial stewardship in the development and management of the Residency Program budget.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum that integrates ACGME competencies with innovative approaches.
  • Promote a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, and mentorship.
  • Champion evidence-based medicine, quality improvement, and scholarly activity.
  • Facilitate resident engagement in local public health initiatives, research projects, and community outreach.
  • Recruit, retain, and promote a high-caliber resident body.
  • Cultivate a psychologically safe working and learning environment for the residents.
  • Lead the accreditation process, ensuring compliance with all ACGME, AAFP, and federal standards.
  • Conduct regular program evaluations, including feedback from residents, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare for and oversee ACGME site visits, self-studies, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Develop partnerships with local hospitals, health systems, educational institutions, and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with Sunset Health (SH) departments to create a multidisciplinary training environment.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders to strengthen the residency program’s integration within the broader healthcare system.
  • Lead efforts to recruit a diverse cohort of residents who reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of the community.
  • Implement cultural competency training and support resident engagement in addressing health disparities.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where residents and faculty feel valued and empowered.
  • Provide ongoing faculty development opportunities to enhance teaching skills, promote scholarly activity, and support career growth.
  • Act as a mentor to faculty, encouraging leadership development and collaboration.
  • Participate in activities that demonstrate professional commitment to the position and to SH.
