About The Position

The Department for Facilities Management, Division of Building Services (DBS), is responsible for preventive maintenance, general repairs, small- to medium-sized construction projects, snow removal and other landscaping services, janitorial services, and other essential day-to-day building functions. The Facility Maintenance Supervisor I provides direct supervision and leadership for building support staff at one or more locations. The supervisor interacts daily with tenants, visitors, contractors, tradespeople, and other staff while performing and coordinating services, housekeeping, and maintenance activities. Tact, diplomacy, and broad-based building systems knowledge are important for success. The position is on call 24 hours a day. Incumbents may be exposed to extreme temperatures and must follow safety procedures.

Requirements

High school graduate, or qualifying experience substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Three years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience; formal training in one of these or a related field may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Team leadership and supervisory skills.
Experience or skills in janitorial or housekeeping services.
Knowledge of construction and/or related trades, such as electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
Customer service skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
General computer literacy.
Ability to be on call 24 hours a day and follow safety procedures when exposed to extreme temperatures.
