About The Position

Access 2 Interpreters, LLC is seeking a face-to-face interpreter who speaks English and Zomi and/or Burmese. The role involves using bilingual language skills to assist people during medical, social service, and other appointments. This is in-person interpretation, not video or telephone interpretation.

Interpreters work as contractors and choose their own schedules, taking as many or as few available assignments as they wish. Assignments are available 24/7/365, although most are requested during business hours. The opportunity is presented as a flexible way to earn money, with earnings depending on the number of assignments accepted. Applicants may be new to professional interpretation and may speak English as a second language.

Requirements

• Be located in the Central Ohio area.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Be eligible to work in the United States.
• Pass a federal criminal background check based on fingerprints and a 10-panel drug screening; these are provided at no cost to the applicant.
• Provide proof of completing at least 40 hours of interpreter training through an accredited program, such as Bridging the Gap, Access 2 Interpreters' Access Academy, court interpretation training, or an interpretation certificate or degree from an accredited college or university.
• Provide certification of bilingual proficiency or pay for and complete a third-party bilingual fluency evaluation through an accredited testing and evaluation organization.
• Speak English and Zomi and/or Burmese.

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face interpretation during medical, social service, and other appointments.
• Accept available assignments according to the schedule chosen by the interpreter.
