About The Position

The Apparel Lead oversees the apparel department, ensuring excellent customer service, driving sales, managing inventory and merchandising, and executing seasonal strategies to meet financial goals. The role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but supports business performance and enhances the Member experience.

The Apparel Lead helps maintain BJ’s Gold Standards for apparel presentation, cleanliness, stocking, signage, and planogram execution. They support and influence the apparel team, serve as a subject matter expert on visual merchandising and presentation standards, and collaborate with Club Leadership to maintain product availability. The role also requires consistent attendance and may include duties in other departments as needed.

Requirements

• At least 2–3 years of retail experience, preferably in soft lines, apparel, or fashion.
• Organizational skills, including being task-oriented, reliable, and goal-focused.
• Demonstrated customer-service experience, including resolving customer issues.
• Familiarity with merchandising principles and experience executing planograms.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to frequently stand and move on hard surfaces.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist members, answer questions, and provide a positive shopping experience.
• Oversee inventory levels, conduct stock checks, coordinate with Club Leadership on product availability, and keep backstock organized for replenishment.
• Execute clearance, salvage, and markdown activities communicated through My Work to achieve sell-through goals.
• Implement and maintain planograms and visual merchandising standards, ensuring displays are attractive, organized, and stocked.
• Set up and maintain HVS and apparel tables and displays according to current planogram guidelines, with products correctly placed and signed.
• Ensure apparel displays and merchandise meet Gold Standards for presentation, cleanliness, organization, and stacking; refer to BJ’s Connect for current expectations.
• Ensure promotional events and signage are visible, accurate, and executed on time.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Train, influence, motivate, and support the apparel team in achieving sales goals and maintaining performance standards.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on visual merchandising and presentation standards.
• Provide feedback and maintain open communication about improving the member experience and business performance.
• Support club policies and procedures, perform other assigned duties, and work in other departments as needed.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
