Newport Aquarium Exhibits Interpreter - Part-Time Year-Round
About The Position
The Newport Aquarium is seeking an Exhibits Interpreter to join their team. This part-time, year-round role involves engaging guests through various interpretive techniques and programming. The interpreter will facilitate guest interactions with ambassador animals in interactive tanks, conduct programs following a set outline, and present information to large groups using a microphone. The position requires enthusiastically sharing facts and conservation messaging in inspiring and meaningful ways, demonstrating strong customer service and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, disciplined, and reliable, adhering to Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Operations Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols.
Requirements
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Fun, dynamic, and friendly personality.
- Read, write, and speak the English language.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
- No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work.
- Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time.
- Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong interpretive skills and utilize various interpretive techniques through programming.
- Facilitate proper guest interactions with ambassador animals housed in our interactive tanks.
- Conduct programs following a set outline.
- Present information to large groups of guests in both formal and informal settings, with the use of a microphone.
- Enthusiastically share facts and conservation messaging with guests in inspiring and meaningful ways.
- Demonstrate strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Work independently, be disciplined and reliable.
- Perform and adhere to Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Operations Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient guest services operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Leadership Team.
