About The Position

The House & Grounds Host (Janitorial) is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of Newport Aquarium, contributing to building maintenance, and enhancing the guest experience. This role involves daily cleaning tasks, deep cleaning with specialized equipment, and assisting with after-hours events. The position also includes engaging guests with animal facts and information, and performing general cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 18 years old or older
• Previous experience in facilities cleaning desired
• Willingness to become Bloodborne Pathogens trained
• Knowledge of aquatic life a plus
• Friendly, outgoing and proactive approach
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• Ability to work with little to no supervision while remaining motivated and on task
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings
• Saturday availability is a must with additional weekday desired.

• Knowledge of aquatic life a plus

Responsibilities

• Maintain the overall cleanliness of Newport Aquarium by completing daily checklists and cleaning tasks
• Contribute to overall building maintenance both during operation and after hours
• Proactively find ways to better the overall Guest Experience
• Engage guests with animal facts, information, and personal connections through interpretation
• Daily garbage, recycling, and compost disposal
• Deep cleans using specified machines (pressure washer, carpet extractor, hard floor scrubber, etc.)
• Fulfill House and Grounds duties during after-hours Events
• Additional cleaning and maintenance tasks assigned by the House and Grounds Lead and/or Supervisor
