About The Position

The Newport Aquarium is seeking a Part-Time Year-Round Exhibits Interpreter. This role involves demonstrating strong interpretive skills and utilizing various techniques through programming. The interpreter will facilitate proper guest interactions with ambassador animals in interactive tanks and conduct programs following a set outline. A key aspect of the role is presenting information to large groups of guests, both formally and informally, using a microphone, and enthusiastically sharing facts and conservation messaging in inspiring and meaningful ways. The position requires strong customer service, interpersonal skills, self-motivation, discipline, and reliability. The interpreter must adhere to Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Operations Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient guest services operations. Other duties may be assigned by the Operations Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Must have strong public speaking skills.
  • Must possess a fun, dynamic, and friendly personality.
  • Must read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
  • No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work.
  • Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
  • Knowledge of marine life is a plus.

Responsibilities
