About The Position

Newport Aquarium is seeking a Year-Round Part-Time House & Grounds Host (Janitorial) to maintain the overall cleanliness and contribute to building maintenance. This role involves direct guest engagement, performing deep cleaning tasks, and assisting with after-hours events. The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable about aquatic life (a plus), and able to work independently while also being a team player. Requirements

• 18 years old or older.
• Previous experience in facilities cleaning desired.
• Willingness to become Bloodborne Pathogens trained.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to work with little to no supervision while remaining motivated and on task.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings.
• Saturday availability is a must with additional weekday desired.
• Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
• In good health and capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor.
• No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work.
• Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work.
• Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Immunocompetence (possible exposure to infections and parasitic disease).

• Knowledge of aquatic life a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the overall cleanliness of Newport Aquarium by completing daily checklists and cleaning tasks.
• Contribute to overall building maintenance both during operation and after hours.
• Proactively find ways to better the overall Guest Experience.
• Engage guests with animal facts, information, and personal connections through interpretation.
• Daily garbage, recycling, and compost disposal.
• Deep cleans using specified machines (pressure washer, carpet extractor, hard floor scrubber, etc.).
• Fulfill House and Grounds duties during after-hours Events.
• Additional cleaning and maintenance tasks assigned by the House and Grounds Lead and/or Supervisor.
