About The Position

Stoneham Public Schools is seeking a motivated, hardworking, energetic individual with attention to detail who takes initiative and welcomes responsibility. The Evening Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the interiors and exteriors of facilities as directed by the Principal and Director of Facilities. The role includes routine cleaning, sanitation, facility readiness, event setup, and responding to school personnel’s work requests. The custodian also coordinates tasks among custodial staff under the direction of the Principal and Facilities Director, including during extended breaks and summer cleaning.

Requirements

• Communicate effectively and provide courteous customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
• Follow complex written and verbal instructions without supervision.
• Lift objects weighing at least 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work at particular heights.
• Have 3–5 years of experience in custodial operations.
• Know how to strip and buff floors and apply floor sealer and/or finish to hard-surface floors.
• Have experience vacuuming and shampooing carpets.
• Hold a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily floor care, including stripping, buffing, and applying sealer or finish to hard-surface floors.
• Dust and clean restrooms, fixtures, and furniture.
• Remove trash from interior and exterior areas.
• Clean windows, walls, and equipment.
• Remove snow.
• Set up equipment for special events.
• Assist school personnel with work requests.
• Complete additional tasks as necessary to maintain facility cleanliness and readiness.
• Coordinate tasks among custodial staff, including during extended breaks and summer cleaning, under the direction of the Principal and Facilities Director.
