About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for overseeing daily staff duties and assignments in the department, ensuring completion that meets set standards. This role involves evaluating conditions and cleanliness through inspection and quality control measures, and coordinating staff training in the proper use of chemicals, equipment, processes, and safety issues. The position requires continuous walking and standing, with potential for bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Applicants must undergo a physical ability test as a condition of employment. The role also involves heavy contact with cleaning chemicals and agents, waste removal including soiled linen, trash, and hazardous waste, and maintaining equipment. A safe working environment is maintained by complying with procedures, infection control guidelines, and departmental quality standards. The technician must attend all required in-service education and training classes and consistently demonstrate the ability to meet time schedules and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a housekeeper aide or similar job.
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete written forms.
  • Can prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
  • Can operate equipment.
  • Can establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete cleaning of assigned areas to include dusting and sanitizing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, walls, ceilings, vents and light fixtures; sweeping, scrubbing and refinishing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpet; re-stocking restrooms; replacing light bulbs; and reporting repairs.
  • Assists with outdoor cleaning including parking lot, windows, and roof, which may involve the use of a ladder.
  • Handles cleaning chemicals, disinfecting agents, floor strippers and finishes.
  • Removes waste by collecting and transporting soiled linen, emptying trash containers, changing sharps containers, transporting solid and hazardous waste to compactors, recycling material, and emptying cigarette receptacles in smoking areas.
  • Keeps equipment clean and orderly and reports equipment failures or other mechanical issues to maintenance staff.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and provides quality service by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, infection control guidelines, and meeting departmental quality standards.
  • Attends all required in-service education and training classes including safety update programs to maintain technical knowledge.
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to meet time schedules and deadlines.
