About The Position

Barr is seeking a mid-level environmental engineer to join its Assessment and Remediation business unit, based in the Bismarck, North Dakota, office. The position may use a hybrid work arrangement, splitting time between the office and a home office. The engineer will work independently and with project teams on investigations and remediation of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and soil gas, as well as other environmental projects for industrial and municipal clients. Work may include preparing technical work plans, cost estimates, and contracts; interpreting data; evaluating technologies; developing remediation and reclamation strategies and designs; coordinating technology demonstration tests; completing feasibility studies; preparing plans and specifications; and writing technical reports. Additional assignments may include on-site investigations, treatment-system monitoring and evaluation, construction observation, and work involving water and wastewater treatment facilities. Fieldwork may occur year-round and is expected to account for up to 40% of the work. Travel may reach 15%, with project needs varying seasonally and over time. Worksites may include rough construction-site terrain, industrial facilities with limited accessibility and moving machinery, waste disposal sites, and hazardous-material cleanup sites. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required, safety training will be provided, and some clients may request participation in a drug screening program. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. The position calls for a clear, confident communicator who can work collaboratively and independently and who is adaptable, organized, proactive, analytical, detail-oriented, and willing to take ownership of their work. For more experienced candidates, leadership, mentoring, and client-relationship skills are also valued. The role is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
