About The Position

Domtar has entry-level production positions available at its Johnsonburg Mill, which manufactures uncoated freesheet paper. Operators work with the mill’s equipment and systems in a heavy manufacturing environment. The career progression offers opportunities to develop skills in pulp and paper-making technologies and increase earnings. New employees typically can earn an average of $70,000 per year after three years of service.

Production employees work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires a strong commitment to safe work practices and may involve working at heights, using process chemicals, operating heavy machinery, and following lockout/tagout procedures. Employees must be able to work in hot and humid conditions and perform the physical activities required in an industrial setting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least two years of full-time work experience or post-secondary education.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic computer and math skills.
• Decision-making and communication skills.
• Ability to be flexible and work in a team environment.
• Strong commitment to safe work behaviors.
• Ability to wear required safety equipment, including a hard hat, ear plugs, safety shoes, and safety glasses.
• Ability to climb ladders and high stairways or catwalks, including while performing lockout or operational troubleshooting.
• Ability to perform a range of motion in various positions and to walk and stand for long periods in an industrial setting.
• Physical endurance and ability to work in a hot and humid environment.
• Willingness and ability to qualify to safely operate forklifts, lift trucks, and other motorized equipment.
• Pass pre-employment computer-based aptitude testing, selection panel interviews, a background check, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate production equipment and systems in the Johnsonburg Mill.
• Follow workplace safety guidelines and policies, including applicable lockout/tagout procedures.
• Work rotating 12-hour shifts, including scheduled days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Qualify to safely operate forklifts, lift trucks, and other motorized equipment.
