About The Position

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher will plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their cognitive, physical, and social/emotional development in the 21st century. This role requires the ability to differentiate instruction, analyze situations, use technology, manage time and behavior, motivate students, consult with various stakeholders, and monitor student performance. The teacher will also coordinate activities of a Teacher Assistant if applicable and perform other related work as required.

Requirements

  • Hold a current North Carolina Professional Educators license for the area of assignment.
  • Hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators license in ESL- English as a Second Language education (K-12).
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in subject area.
  • Strong background in North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a telephone and input data into a computer.
  • Sufficient vision to read computer screens and printed materials with or without vision aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to speak clearly in audible tones in similar environments.
  • Physical agility to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Ability to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, sitting on the floor, climbing stairs, walking, and reaching overhead.

  • Plan instruction appropriate for students by collaborating with colleagues and using a variety of data sources for planning.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and techniques that are most effective in meeting the needs of students.
  • Integrate and utilize technology in instruction by knowing when and how to use technology to maximize student learning.
  • Help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills by encouraging students to ask questions, think creatively, and draw conclusions.
  • Help students work in teams and develop leadership qualities by teaching the importance of cooperation and collaboration.
