Engineering Manager, eCommerce (DTC)

About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on, execution-focused Engineering Manager to lead the development and optimization of our eCommerce platform. This role will be responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that power our DTC experience across web, mobile, and integrated systems. This leader will partner closely with Product, eCommerce, and Marketing teams to translate business needs into technical solutions, while ensuring strong engineering practices, system reliability, and team performance. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will manage a team of engineers and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to execute against our digital roadmap.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 1–2+ years in a management role
  • Experience working on eCommerce or high-traffic consumer platforms
  • Strong understanding of modern web technologies, APIs, and system architecture
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and performance optimization
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with team leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Shopify or similar platforms preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of eCommerce features and enhancements
  • Translate product and business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Ensure high-quality code, testing standards, and on-time delivery of projects
  • Manage sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release cycles
  • Actively contribute code, participate in code reviews, and support hands-on development alongside the team
  • Own site performance including speed, uptime, and scalability
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across frontend and backend systems
  • Improve checkout reliability, page load times, and mobile responsiveness
  • Monitor and maintain system health, uptime, and incident response processes
  • Support and optimize the eCommerce tech stack (e.g., Shopify, APIs, third-party tools)
  • Oversee integrations with key systems including payments, subscriptions, and analytics
  • Ensure data flows accurately across platforms and systems
  • Maintain documentation for architecture and system workflows
  • Partner with Product and eCom Leaders to support A/B testing and personalization initiatives
  • Build and maintain tools that enable rapid experimentation and iteration
  • Ensure accurate tracking and event instrumentation for analytics
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment best practices
  • Establish coding standards, QA processes, and development workflows
  • Manage technical debt and prioritize system improvements
  • Support security, compliance, and data protection standards
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align priorities and execution
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management
