About the position
As an Engineering Manager at Reforge, you will be responsible for managing a small but mighty engineering team and making meaningful contributions to the product and codebase. You will work collaboratively with thought leaders in the organization to shape product strategy and ship impactful experiences for users. Additionally, you will provide technical strategy and direction to your teams, help engineers develop their careers, and balance hands-on contribution with program management.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the Reforge offering by understanding the mission and providing feedback/ideas for improvement
- Meaningfully contribute to the Reforge product through code, architecture, and design (50+% hands-on)
- Manage a small engineering team
- Work collaboratively with product thought leaders to shape product strategy and deliver impactful experiences for members
- Provide technical strategy and direction to your teams
- Help engineers develop their long-term careers, provide performance feedback, and conduct one-on-ones to ensure their success
- Balance hands-on contribution and program management for products your team ships
Requirements
- 4+ years of previous experience as a hands-on technical leader
- 1+ year of people management experience, either as a senior IC with direct reports or direct Engineering Management
- Experience building software with a proven track record of making it part of a successful business
- Strong communication skills with engineers and non-technical colleagues, both written and verbal
- Prior experience developing growing technical teams in a startup environment
- Nice to Have: Ruby on Rails / GraphQL / React development background
- Nice to Have: Experience with PMF experimentation and mindset, including rapid iteration and building with customers
- Attributes that will make you successful in this role: Prior experience at a small company with a strong technical bar, prior experience in a remote organization
