Duke Energy is hiring an Engineering Co-op for a 16-week session from January 2027 through May 2027. The co-op requires full-time availability at 40 hours per week. Students may participate in two to three sessions across different groups to gain a broad experience and explore full-time placement opportunities after graduation; a program coordinator will work with the student to determine future sessions. Program opportunities may be available in Transmission, Distribution, Project Management & Construction, Environmental Health and Safety, Regulated and Renewable Energy, Grid Planning Studies, and other business areas. Work varies by program and may involve transmission and distribution system design, analysis and planning; power-generation project development and construction; environmental and groundwater projects; power plant systems and performance; or transmission-level grid modeling and analysis. Students work with staff and experienced engineers on projects supporting reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy. Program locations for 2027 include North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida. Depending on the opportunity, work may be hybrid or onsite. Hybrid work combines remote and onsite work after onboarding, and employees should live within a reasonable commute of the designated facility. Some roles may involve travel to project sites, field assignments, exposure to workplace hazards, and personal protective equipment. A valid driver's license and security access requirements may apply depending on the role and location.
