About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region Construction & CIP Support, is seeking an Engineering Assistant 3 to assist with the administration of construction projects. In this role, you will work closely with Construction Project Managers as the Project Engineer, leading assigned staff. Your primary responsibility will be to serve as the on-site representative of the Contracting Officer, ensuring continuous inspection of contractor activities day and night. This involves performing essential engineering functions such as field inspections, project documentation, materials testing, processing contractor pay estimates, and overseeing contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans, standards, and policies. You will act as the primary liaison for resolving construction-related issues, making equitable and timely decisions, and interacting with the public and client agencies on project matters. Overtime may be routinely required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET, AND two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level (e.g., Engineering Assistant 2).
  • OR Bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET, AND an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, AND two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level.
  • Substitutions: Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.
  • Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • Requires frequent travel within the state.
