About The Position

This position is part of the Department’s centralized Communications Team and currently works a hybrid schedule from home and the office, as appropriate. Because DOH is one of the State of Alaska’s largest and broadest departments, the daily environment is fast-paced, varied, challenging, and creative, requiring independent and collaborative work on both long-term projects and time-sensitive communications for audiences across the state. In this role, you will supervise the graphic design team, provide art direction for its projects, and produce visual materials that make information clear, engaging, and accessible. Guide the team’s graphic design, video, animation and publication work, providing creative direction and ensuring finished materials meet quality, accessibility and brand standards. Design and produce graphics, infographics, videos, animations and printed publications, including filming, editing and motion graphics work using design and editing software. Supervise employees, assign, review, evaluate, and provide meaningful feedback on their work, set priorities, and teach production skills to employees developing their expertise Work with departments to develop campaigns and visual content specific to their audiences and goals and oversee the organization and maintenance of visual assets.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the production, communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in writing, editing, design and layout, of written materials, such as, publications, articles, brochures, newsletters, or other printed materials and/or internet documents.
  • Three (3) professional references whom we may contact by phone are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
  • Three (3) work samples, demonstrating graphic design, video production, and publication layout. Please include at least one example of each (such as an infographic or campaign graphic, a finished video, and a brochure or report). For each sample, briefly identify your contribution and the software you used.
  • A current resume.
  • A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to support that you meet the minimum qualifications competencies.
  • If education is completed in a foreign college or university, it may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
  • Work experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications must be documented in the application.
