About The Position

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Workers Compensation, is recruiting for an Investigator 3 located in Anchorage. This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 18. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) enforces compliance with the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Act through thorough and fair fraud investigations, accountability for violations, and proactive public education intended to prevent uninsured injuries. This position directly supports the Division’s responsibility to promote compliance and protect Alaska workers and employers.

  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible investigative work experience performing duties such as locating and gathering information, evidence and/or testimony to be used in civil or criminal proceedings, administrative actions, or governmentally regulated activities which included preparing reports in support of attorneys or agencies engaged in administrative adjudication, and/or detecting and verify suspected fraud, licensing violations, and other violations of state law.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a background investigation, which includes a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes.
  • Must be eligible for commission as a Special Officer with the State of Alaska.
  • Must possess an Alaska driver’s license and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be an Alaska Resident.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct complex civil, administrative, and criminal investigations involving workers’ compensation fraud, uninsured employers, and other violations of the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Gather, preserve, and analyze evidence; interview witnesses and involved parties; research records and databases; and prepare complete investigative reports and case files.
  • Develop cases for administrative enforcement or referral for prosecution, including preparing petitions, subpoenas, search-warrant materials, and other investigative documents as appropriate.
  • Represent the Special Investigations Unit in hearings, prehearing conferences, employer contacts, and multi-agency investigations, and provide testimony when required.
  • Conduct onsite employer visits and public education activities throughout Alaska to promote compliance and prevent uninsured workplace injuries.
