About The Position

The Department of Natural Resources, Support Services Division, is recruiting for an Accountant 3 in Anchorage. This position oversees both travel and expense and the accounts payable processing for DNR. The Support Services Division is a unified organization dedicated to delivering client-focused financial, budget, procurement, human resource, and information technology services to support all DNR staff and public-facing service programs. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the concepts, practices, and techniques used to identify, engage, influence, and monitor relationships with individuals and groups connected to a work effort; including those actively involved, those who exert influence over the process and its results, and those who have a vested interest in the outcome (positive or negative).
  • Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.
  • Plans, distributes, and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and treated fairly and equitably. Assignments include the authority and responsibility to recommend or independently take action to employ (i.e., appoint, transfer, promote), discipline or discharge, or adjudicate grievances of direct reports.
  • Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
  • Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Performs supervisory and management functions, including workforce development, operational planning, policy development, data analysis, and program coordination.
  • Develops, manages, and is accountable for maintaining a high-performance team meeting agreed-upon service level targets and performance measures.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for travel and expense as well as accounts payable processes while applying advanced accounting knowledge.
  • Audits and certifies documents for compliance with the AAM, CBU, and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyzes transactions and processes, identifies discrepancies, develops improved methods, and implements solutions.
  • Responsible for end-of-fiscal-year activities.
