About The Position
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for an Accountant 3/4 located in Anchorage or Juneau, Alaska! This position serves as the fiscal officer for the Division of Wildlife Conservation and is responsible for providing professional level oversight for finance, grants, and contracts. The position develops and implements accounting procedures, internal controls, and ensures that accounting information is complete and accurate, financial reports are reliable, and that the Division conducts itself in accordance with applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and policies. This is a flexibly staffed position.
Requirements
- Competencies in Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
- Competencies in Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
- Competencies in Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
- Competencies in Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices, including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
- Competencies in Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
- Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.
- Competencies in Financial Analysis: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to interpret quantitative and qualitative data; includes data modeling, earned value management, and evaluating key financial indicators, trends, and historical data.
- Competencies in Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
