About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Design & Engineering Services is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex located anywhere in Alaska to help us Keep Alaska Moving! This position involves performing as a Civil Engineer lead for capital improvement projects, including preliminary engineering, field reconnaissance, final design, and advertising. The role includes leading multi-disciplinary teams, developing project deliverables (plans, specifications, estimates), and mentoring Engineering Assistants. The Engineer/Architect 2 level will handle medium-to-large-sized projects in addition to all duties of the Engineer/Architect 1.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
  • If not registered in Alaska, must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity.
  • Must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire if not currently registered.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Occasional travel to project sites within the coastal region of Alaska.
  • Ability to fly to remote communities in small aircraft.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as highway & airport transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving skills.
  • Strong Oral and Written Communication skills.
  • One year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent (for Engineer/Architect 2 level).

Responsibilities

  • Perform as Civil Engineer lead for small-to-medium-sized capital improvement projects – including preliminary engineering & field reconnaissance thru final design & advertising.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team (internal staff and/or consultant) through the development process for road & airport projects.
  • Research, develop, and produce project deliverables (plans, specifications, estimates, and other engineering documents).
  • Independently perform field reconnaissance work, as needed.
  • Work closely with & mentor Engineering Assistants.
  • Perform as Civil Engineer lead for medium-to-large-sized capital improvement projects (for Engineer/Architect 2 level).
  • Perform all relevant duties outlined in the E/A 1 position (for Engineer/Architect 2 level).
