About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Project Delivery Bridge Design Section, is seeking a Technical Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex to join their team. This position will collaborate with the Bridge Management Engineer to ensure compliance with federal requirements for bridge inspection, load ratings, commercial vehicle permits, and asset management. The role involves becoming a statewide authority in bridge analysis, load ratings, inspection methodologies, and management strategies. At the Technical Engineer 1 level, the focus is on setting standards, establishing priorities, and resolving challenges. At the Technical Engineer 2 level, the individual will be the foremost expert in these areas across the state. The Bridge Section prides itself on being hands-on professionals and nationally recognized experts in bridge safety and engineering services.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license.
  • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors -12 AAC 36.063.
  • Meet requirements of training and experience for Team Leader under National Bridge Safety Inspection Standards - 23 CFR 650 C.
  • Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1: Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect, and two years of professional engineering or architectural experience as an Engineer 1, Architectural Assistant 3 or higher with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Technical Engineer 2 / Architect 2: Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect, and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect 1 or higher), of which one year was as a Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1 or Engineer/Architect 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
