About The Position

The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 1/2 to join the team at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC), located in Anchorage, Alaska. The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Triage and assess patients, administer prescribed medications and treatments, maintain patient medical records, observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of inmates, and handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner. Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse (for Corrections Nurse 2).
  • Professional Licenses: Alaska Registered Nursing License or within 30 days of graduation from nursing program.
  • 3 Professional References, 2 of which must be supervisory

  • Applicants must certify that they have a legal right to accept employment in the United States.
  • Must pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
  • Must provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska (for Corrections Nurse 2).
  • Prior service as a Corrections Nurse I, Psychiatric Nurse I, or Nurse I with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
  • Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
