Engagement Manager

Mighty Acorn Digital
•$150,000 - $170,000•Remote

About The Position

Mighty Acorn is seeking an Engagement Manager to lead account health and strategy across a portfolio of government-partner engagements. The role ensures engagements are healthy, produce results, and meet or exceed partner expectations. The Engagement Manager takes a strategic view across engagements, anticipates partner challenges, offers solutions, and turns lessons from past work into capabilities that can be applied in new markets. This is a senior, trusted advisory role with government agency leaders. The Engagement Manager understands agencies’ goals and recommends how modern, human-centered digital services can help achieve them. The role does not run delivery; each engagement has a Delivery Lead responsible for day-to-day operations. The Engagement Manager partners with Delivery Leads, agency leaders, practice leaders, Operations, Growth, and Mighty Acorn leadership to ensure agencies are well served, teams have appropriate capacity, and successful work can continue through renewals, recompetes, or new opportunities. The role follows agency partnerships from early discussions about new work through delivery and planning for what comes next. It shapes engagements, scopes and budgets work, helps form appropriately skilled teams, supports delivery and risk management, builds relationships across agencies, identifies opportunities to expand impact, leads proposals when appropriate, captures evidence of outcomes, and develops account plans aligned with Mighty Acorn’s goals. Work must be performed from within the contiguous United States. Candidates must hold active US citizenship or a green card and have work authorization that does not require present or future visa sponsorship. Selected candidates must pass a criminal background check before starting. Candidates must have fast (>100Mbps), reliable internet and a dedicated workspace with suitable background noise for audio calls.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in government digital services, civic tech, or public sector consulting, including at least 3 years leading a government client relationship.
  • Background delivering digital services, such as product management, delivery management, or engineering.
  • Track record of growing client partnerships through extending work, expanding into new areas, or leading successful proposals.
  • Experience helping a client partnership take on new and larger challenges, including shaping and contributing to proposals.
  • Understanding of government operations and procurement, including budgets, procurement, contracts, and the people and pressures involved.
  • Presence and judgment to advise senior government leaders and recognize when to involve others.
  • Confidence in giving clients clear recommendations, including when the recommendations may be unexpected.
  • Clear, persuasive writing and ability to explain complex work simply.
  • Ability to work efficiently, sometimes under tight deadlines.
  • Preference for transparency and ability to communicate directly and transparently.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and cope with temporarily ambiguous situations as requirements change.
  • Must perform work from within the contiguous United States.
  • Must hold active US citizenship or a green card and have work authorization that requires no present or future visa sponsorship by Mighty Acorn Digital.
  • Must pass a criminal background check before the start date.
  • Must have fast (>100Mbps), reliable internet and a dedicated workspace with background noise appropriate for audio calls.

Nice To Haves

  • State and local government experience.

Responsibilities

  • Shape new work by turning early ideas from current or potential government partners into engagements that Mighty Acorn can effectively deliver.
  • Help agency leaders translate goals into a clear approach, team, timeline, and budget.
  • Own engagement scope and budget; work with Operations and Growth on statements of work, contract modifications, and teaming-partner agreements.
  • Work with Delivery Leads and practice leaders to ensure teams have the appropriate skills and experience.
  • Set expectations with agencies about deliverables, ways of working, and risks, and keep engagements focused on outcomes for the people services are intended to reach.
  • Provide teams with context about stakeholders, their priorities, and measures of success.
  • Meet regularly with Delivery Leads to understand progress, discuss agency feedback, and provide support where needed.
  • Ensure risks to commitments are raised and resolved early, and lead communications with agency leaders when necessary.
  • Advise on delivery plans, staffing, and major deliverables from a broad understanding of agency needs.
  • Monitor budget and burn with Delivery Leads and Operations, and plan for changes to the work.
  • Share observations about team members with their managers to support feedback and development.
  • Transfer useful ideas and lessons between engagements.
  • Build relationships across agencies and understand their goals, obstacles, and definitions of public success.
  • Meet regularly with agency leaders to share progress, discuss upcoming work, and raise concerns openly and early.
  • Make clear recommendations on difficult decisions and candidly address problems.
  • Anticipate changes such as leadership transitions, budget cycles, and contract timelines, and plan with agencies ahead of decisions.
  • Help agencies plan for sustaining services after Mighty Acorn’s work ends.
  • Identify ways to extend proven approaches to other programs, departments, or agencies and help clients address further challenges.
  • Partner with Growth to create opportunities in the changing Public Interest Technology landscape.
  • When there is a suitable need, work with the agency, Mighty Acorn leadership, and Growth to shape opportunities, scope and price work, and lead proposals.
  • Recognize when Mighty Acorn is not the right fit and help connect agencies with other partners.
  • Capture outcomes as evidence and stories for agency stakeholders and Mighty Acorn communications.
  • Lead account plans for agencies with Mighty Acorn leadership, including goals, opportunities, and approaches.
  • Set six-month direction and 90-day priorities, and revisit plans quarterly based on new learning.
  • Help translate account plans into annual goals, revenue targets, budgets, and team priorities.
  • Work with practice leaders to identify capabilities, methods, and proof points agencies will need.
