About The Position

Atelier Ten is seeking a full-time Environmental Designer specializing in Energy Analysis for its New York City office. The role contributes to projects focused on energy efficiency and carbon emissions reduction, producing technical deliverables, conducting whole-building energy modeling, developing building systems strategies, and advising project teams. The position is part of an interdisciplinary environmental design consulting group and the company’s Energy Analysis practice. It is not a remote position. The work spans projects such as offices, higher education buildings, laboratories, and masterplans. The employee will use Atelier Ten methodologies aligned with ASHRAE 90.1 and other industry standards; develop shoe-box and whole-building models using tools such as IES-VE or eQuest; evaluate building envelopes, massing, and mechanical systems; and identify net-zero energy and carbon strategies. The role also involves analyzing building physics and systems, reviewing design documents, preparing technical reports, supporting sustainability and thermal comfort assessments, benchmarking, climate mitigation and life-cycle cost analysis, and communicating recommendations to clients and design teams. The employee will collaborate across Atelier Ten’s integrated design services, contribute to tools and methods, and attend site visits and project meetings. Atelier Ten describes itself as a team of environmental designers and carbon strategists working with architects, engineers, owners, and other stakeholders to advance sustainable, high-performance buildings. It is a member company of Surbana Jurong, a global urban, infrastructure, and managed-services consulting firm.

  • Develop shoe-box and whole-building energy models using IES-VE and/or eQuest.
  • Evaluate building envelope performance, massing, and mechanical system options across climate zones and standards.
  • Identify and analyze net-zero energy and carbon strategies using metrics such as carbon emissions, time-of-use rates, and source/site energy.
  • Prepare written summaries and technical reports for clients and other stakeholders.
  • Support sustainability assessments, energy and thermal comfort analysis, energy benchmarking, climate impact mitigation strategies, and life-cycle cost analysis.
  • Use analytical and computational methods to assess complex building physics and building systems.
  • Review and interpret architectural and mechanical design documents for whole-building energy model simulations.
  • Collaborate with architects and design team members to recommend energy and carbon emissions improvements.
  • Simulate buildings and support carbon emissions calculations, annual energy cost analysis, and life-cycle cost analysis.
  • Help develop approaches and tools to improve the Energy Analysis practice’s efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain in-house databases, spreadsheet tools, methods, and standards.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings and present analyses to stakeholders.
