About The Position

Community Options, Inc. is hiring a full-time Employment Specialist in Syracuse, New York, to coach people with developmental disabilities and prepare them for employment. The specialist develops essential job skills, supports job placement, and provides assistance that helps participants obtain competitive employment. The role includes working side-by-side with people at job sites and teaching or reinforcing skills such as resume development, interviewing, and completing job applications. The starting rate is $18.00 per hour without a bachelor’s degree and $20.00 per hour with a bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s degree and experience working with transition-age youth are preferred. Employment is contingent on successful criminal background, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug-testing checks.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of full-time work experience supporting people with disabilities.
Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Successful completion of criminal background, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug-testing checks is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance to help people with disabilities obtain competitive employment.
Coach people with disabilities to develop independent job skills.
Work side-by-side with people with disabilities at job sites.
Reinforce essential skills or teach new skills, including resume development, successful job interviewing, and completing job applications.
Accurately complete all documentation.
Cooperate with licensing and department staff during inspections, inquiries, or investigations.
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
