About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment that prepares associates for potential Store Manager opportunities in Walmart U.S. store operations. The role includes training and development across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, although there is no guaranteed timeframe or guaranteed Store Manager placement. Associates must be willing to maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement. If a Store Manager role is not secured within the expected period, next steps will depend on performance and business needs and may include placement in another role at a different level. The ESM learns to support store financial performance, sales, staffing, customer service, community outreach, and operational compliance. The position supports the store management team, develops associates, implements business plans, and partners with stakeholders across the organization. Progress is assessed through defined developmental milestones and competency assessments. The role may also include other job-related responsibilities throughout the store as assigned or necessary. The annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may include a Regional Pay Zone adjustment based on location and a Complex Structure adjustment based on external factors that create challenges.
