About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment designed to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities within Walmart US store operations. The assignment involves training and development across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. It has no guaranteed timeframe, but is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with the expectation of progressing into a Store Manager position. Associates must maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement. Progression depends on successful completion of developmental milestones and competency assessments; if a Store Manager role is not secured within the expected timeframe, next steps will depend on performance and business needs and may include placement in another role at a different level. The role supports store financial performance, sales, customer service, staffing, talent development, community outreach, management-team leadership, compliance, asset protection, safety, quality assurance, and execution of business plans. It partners with stakeholders across the organization and upholds Walmart policies, values, ethics, and the Open Door Policy. The role includes additional job-related responsibilities throughout the store as assigned or necessary. The annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000, with annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Certain positions may also receive regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation. Walmart offers benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k), stock purchase, company-paid life insurance, paid time off and leave programs, disability coverage, company discounts, adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, and the Live Better U education benefit. Benefit eligibility and terms may depend on job classification and length of employment.
