About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment designed to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities within Walmart US store operations. The role provides training and development across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment has no guaranteed timeframe but is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with the expectation of progressing into a Store Manager position during that period. If a Store Manager role is not secured within that timeframe, next steps will be based on performance and business needs and may include placement in another role at a different level. The associate must be willing to maintain mobility within the assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement, and must complete developmental milestones and competency assessments. The role supports store financial performance, sales, staffing and talent development, customer service, community engagement, safety, asset protection, and operational execution. It helps lead the store management team, communicates objectives, monitors performance, provides feedback, and ensures compliance with company policies. The ESM also collaborates with stakeholders across the organization and supports continuous learning and improvement. The position is based at 3400 Steelyard Dr, Cleveland, OH 44109-2386. Walmart states an annual salary range of $85,000 to $120,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
