About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment intended to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities in Walmart US store operations. The associate develops across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The assignment has no guaranteed timeframe and is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with the expectation of progressing into a Store Manager position during that period. If a Store Manager role is not secured, next steps will depend on performance and business need and may include placement in another role at a different level. Associates must maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager applications and potential placement and successfully complete developmental milestones and competency assessments. The role includes learning to manage store financial performance, monitor sales and profit goals, forecast budgets, and review business reports and profit-and-loss statements. It supports effective merchandise presentation, accurate pricing and signing, and appropriate inventory levels; customer service; staffing and succession planning; community outreach; associate relations; and the leadership, development, and performance of store associates and managers. The ESM also helps ensure compliance with company policies, asset protection and safety controls, quality assurance, and operational standards, and supports execution of business plans and organizational objectives in partnership with stakeholders across Walmart. The position is based at 6259 College Dr, Suffolk, Virginia. The listed annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Certain positions may also receive regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation. Walmart describes benefits including health coverage, financial benefits, paid time off, education benefits, and other programs; eligibility and terms may vary.
