About The Position

This position is for an Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant at the VA Augusta Healthcare System, a leading healthcare system serving Veterans in the VA Southeast Network. The facility provides primary and specialty care services, including mental health, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. The role involves managing patient needs within the Emergency Service Unit, providing comprehensive care for patients with conditions ranging from non-critical to critical. The NP/PA will need to understand scientific and psychosocial theories, biological aspects of disease processes, and analyze medical procedures to implement appropriate interventions. Collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and families is essential. The role also includes operating and mentoring specialized equipment and administering therapeutic measures such as medications, IV fluids, and blood products, as well as performing procedures like splinting and suturing. Inter-facility transports may also be required.

Requirements

  • Thirty-six (36) months of experience and/or ER experience with a minimum of twelve months (12) in the ED.
  • Active, current, and unrestricted (unflagged) state NP or PA license from any of the Fifty (50) United States or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
  • Valid, current board certifications if applicable (PA must be NCCPA certified).
  • Valid, unrestricted DEA with schedules II-V.
  • Cannot be under exclusions or sanctions from the Medicare/Medicaid programs.
  • ACLS and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patients' needs as described, identified by the Emergency Service Unit, and as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Provide comprehensive, skilled, and competent care specific to the age of the patients, based on assessment, process, the provider's plan of care, where conditions and treatments can range from non-critical to critical.
  • Recognize complications and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Analyze the results of various medical procedures and translate them into appropriate interventions.
  • Work effectively and harmoniously within the healthcare team and with patients and their families.
  • Operate and mentor specialized equipment such as respiratory equipment, thematic deceives, suction devices, defibrillator, electrocardiographs, etc., reports malfunctions to Bio-Med and /or Maintenance as needed.
  • Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed, including medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, respirator treatments, and performing various procedures, i.e., splinting, sutures, preparing the patient, assisting during the procedure, and evaluating patient outcomes post-procedures.
