About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for an Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in a 38-room Emergency Department/Urgent Care setting. The facility is a 298-bed hospital with a 34-bed ICU, serving approximately 24,000 annual visits. It is a Level II trauma center, a certified primary stroke center, and a tertiary referral center. The average patient per day (PPD) is between 12-20. The patient population includes all ages. The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used is Cerner. Credentialing typically takes 60 days. This position is offered as an independent contractor (1099) role.

Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certificates
  • Minimum 1-year Emergency Medicine experience or equivalent
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Wisconsin
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
  • Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Wisconsin
  • National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
