About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) in Bedford and Altoona, PA. The PA will be responsible for seeing patients with minor complaints and performing minor procedures such as lacerations and I&Ds. Physicians typically handle critically ill patients, STEMI/Stroke evaluations, and invasive procedures. The practice setting involves an average of 1-2 patients per hour, with a physician on-site 24/7. The patient population is 80% adult and 20% pediatric. The EMR system used is EPIC. Credentialing is expected to take 90 days.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • NIHSS certification
  • Minimum 2-years Emergency Medicine experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Pennsylvania OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Pennsylvania
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
